FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is changing its name.
Starting Jan. 1, the zoo will now be known as the Fort Wayne Zoo.
A statement released today says zoo staff has heard overwhelming feedback from visitors who thought the zoo was smaller, or “just a petting zoo” based on its name.
“This new name will better reflect who we are and what we do, and our mission won’t change. This name change will also help widen our audience, engage more people in our mission, our conservation efforts, and in our future growth. We are more than a zoo for children, we are a zoo for all,” Executive Director Rick Schuiteman said in the statement.
The zoo has gone through a series of names and logo changes since the early 1960s. For the last 20 years, the zoo has been identified by its zoo letters, which will remain.
“We are more than a children’s zoo. We are the Fort Wayne Zoo,” the statement says.
